In the Hosting Inclusive Table Tennis (HITT) programme over 110 special needs students from 9 schools participate in weekly table tennis coaching sessions.
Each student receives personal attention through one-on-one coaching.
The HITT programme is run by a group of dedicated Auckland Table Tennis Association volunteers and has been operating since 2003.
Students show their individual potential with astonishing improvements in concentration, co-ordination and social skills.
At year end, the HITT programme with support from Special Olympics New Zealand, runs a Ribbon Day where the students celebrate their achievements with recognition awards, games and a BBQ. Highlights from the 2019 HITT programme Ribbon Day are below.
The HITT programme is highly praised by teachers and is very popular with the students. The HITT programme has been recognized by a number of awards including the highest Distinguished Service Award from Special Olympics New Zealand. The HITT programme is very willing to act as a resource to anyone who wishes to start a special needs table tennis coaching programme.
